Iowa’s time of transfer septic system inspection law (SF261) was passed by the Iowa legislature in April 2008 and came into effect on July 1, 2009. The law requires every home/building served by a septic system to have the septic system inspected before any sale or deed transfer.
This law is to prevent any sub-standard or polluting septic system from being transferred. This is to avoid environmental and public health hazards. All inspections must be conducted by an inspector certified by the department. Click here to learn more about this law.
